EASTER – Superbowl Weekend for Church!!

Posted: April 1, 2010 in General Updates, Relationship w/ Jesus, South Bay Church

We have tagged Easter Sunday as Superbowl Sunday for Church.  Easter Sunday is arguably the biggest Sunday of the year for church.  Easter is the greatest celebration day for all followers of Jesus because Easter is the day we celebrate the death and RESURRECTION of Jesus, the one and only Son of God, who gave His life as a ransom for all mankind, redeeming us and rescuing us from death and condemnation!  By His wounds we are healed (Isa. 53:5), and by His blood shed on the cross our sins are forgiven (Hebrews 9:11-28)!  We were dead in our disobedience to God facing eternal separation from God in hell, BUT He has made us alive together with Christ, having taken the sin debt we could not pay and NAILED IT TO THE CROSS (Colossians 2:13-15!!!  How great is the LOVE, how amazing is the GRACE, and how magnificent is the MERCY of our God and Creator!  By faith in Jesus and the repentance of our sin we find forgiveness, WE FIND LIFE (Romans 6:23)!!!  It absolutely blows my mind to think of the love, grace, and mercy God has shed on me through Jesus.  AND YOU KNOW WHAT??!!  God wants to show that same love, that same grace, and that same mercy to each and every person on this planet.  How amazing is our God!  The best thing of all is that JESUS is no longer in the grave but he has overcome sin and death!  We serve a RISEN Savior and King!  Amen!!

I did not start this blog thinking I would dwell that much on the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus, but God has been placing on my heart these past few weeks how amazing His love, grace, and mercy truly are.  So many times we become numb to the Gospel.  We here it so many times that we lose a sense of just how great God’s love is for us and much His grace and mercy truly are worth!  When we understand where God has brought us from, then we can truly understand His grace, mercy, and love.  When you read the apostles in the New Testament they were always aware of where they were without Jesus, and the life God gave them through faith in Jesus.  Read and observe how they write about God’s love, grace, and mercy.  They don’t describe it as small – they describe God’s love, grace, and mercy as HUGE!  Are you numb to the fact that you were dead and God has made you a love together with Christ?  Have you lost a sense of how great God’s love, grace, and mercy are?  Have you even begun a relationship with Jesus?  This Easter remember what God has done for you.  Praise His mighty name with everything that is within you!

This Easter weekend at South Bay we have some pretty awesome things coming up.  On Saturday we are holding ourcommunity Easter egg hunt.  The name of the event is HUNT!  Last year we did this event and had over 2,000 people show up.  This event is a great way for us to connect with the community we are working to reach with the news of Jesus.  We will have over 10,000 Easter eggs and many prizes for children.  We are praying that God will allow us to meet many people, invite them to Easter Sunday, and have opportunities to share God’s love and the news of Jesus with them.

We are pumped for Easter Sunday with a great expectancy that God is going to do an awesome work.  We have been praying diligently for God to bring over 400 people to church on Easter morning and for God to allow us to see 25 people make first time decisions to follow Jesus!  This may happen or it may not but Jesus taught us to ask (Matthew 7:7; John 14:13, 15:16, 16:23), and David declares he will lay his requests before God “and wait in expectation” (Psalm 5:1-3).  Do we often not see God move in our churches because we are not asking Him too?  When was the last time you prayed for God to reach people for Jesus and do a mighty work in your church, and you actually believed He would with a spirit of expectation?  It is convicting to think that so often we treat God as being so small, but in reality we serve a huge God!

Please pray with us as we seek to impact Silicon Valley with the Good News of Jesus Christ!
